A black case, a black dial, and gold tone only where it earns its place: the bezel edge and the rings around the sub-dials. The Apex Black Gold is the version of our chronograph that reads dressy from across a room and sporty up close.
The 46 mm stainless steel case sits at the larger end of everyday sizing. Big enough to read at a glance without lifting your wrist, not so big that it swallows a 7-inch wrist. Three sub-dials sit at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, and the tachymeter scale on the bezel is a working one, printed to be used rather than decorated. Press the top pusher and the center seconds hand sweeps; press it again and it stops dead; press the bottom pusher and everything snaps back to zero.
The strap is soft silicone, 20 mm at the lugs, tapering slightly toward the pin buckle. That choice is the reason this works as a daily wear: silicone doesn’t hold sweat, doesn’t crease the way leather does after one hot summer, and rinses clean under a tap. Swap it for a leather strap later if you want the same case to read smarter.
What it is not. This is a 3 ATM watch, which covers rain, hand washing and splashes. It does not cover swimming, showering or diving. The glass is mineral crystal, harder to scratch than acrylic and softer than sapphire, so if you are rough on watches expect to polish out fine marks eventually.
It pairs cleanly with black denim, charcoal suiting and anything carrying gold hardware. It fights with silver-only accessories, because the gold accents will lose that argument every time.
