Apex Rose Black

Rose gold sits between the two extremes. It is warmer than steel, which makes it easier to wear against skin, and quieter than yellow gold, which makes it easier to wear at work. The Apex Rose Black puts that tone on the bezel and the sub-dial rings and leaves the rest of the watch black.

Underneath the finish it is the same 46 mm stainless steel case and quartz chronograph movement as the rest of the Apex line: three sub-dials at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, a working tachymeter scale, a center seconds hand that starts, stops and resets off the two pushers. The mineral crystal is slightly domed, which softens reflections at the edges and keeps the black dial readable in bright light.

The 20 mm silicone strap is the practical half of this watch. It doesn’t absorb sweat, it doesn’t stain, and it can be washed. If you later decide you want leather, the lugs are standard width and take a 20 mm strap without adapters.

Where rose gold earns its keep is against warm skin tones and warm fabrics: rust, camel, olive, brown leather, off-white. It also works with an all-black outfit as the single point of warmth. Where it struggles is next to cold silver jewelry, which makes the rose look muddy by comparison.

The limits are the same across the line and worth stating plainly. 3 ATM covers rain and hand washing, not swimming. Mineral crystal is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. The rose tone is a plating, so avoid abrasive polishes, which will wear through it rather than clean it.
